My 2014 Goal:

“This year, I’m committing to improving my encaustic collage technique. Encaustic art requires a bit of set-up, and I prefer quick-and-easy, but I have all the supplies and love the medium. So, I plan to set aside one morning or afternoon a month to devote to encaustic art.

Below is a step-by-step example of an encaustic collage valentine I made; my very first encaustic piece ever and part of my inspiration to work more in encaustic in the coming year!”

My 2014 Goal:

Finding time to make art is always a challenge. The best way for me to get the time to play is to jump on the inspiration train when it comes. This usually means a big, messy studio frenzy following a long, slow, thought-out thinking session.

My current thinking sessions have been about creating a a new series of mixed-media portraits that are a mash-up of Elizabethan portrait and modern-day teens. (Think Elizabethan collar and iPhone headphones.)

My goal for this year is to finish my experiments and get painting!

My 2014 Goal:

“My goal for the New Year is to expand my art portfolio by posing a challenge for myself. How do I incorporate painting into my paper cut illustrations in a way that is unique and enhances the cut paper? Not every attempt I make to will be a success, but it will put me one step closer to adding new art to my portfolio.

Below is an example of my work, Running Around, which is a mixed-media piece experimenting with the combination of sparse silhouettes, cut paper, painting, and 3-D texture through stitching.
