Art Magazines

I have a confession to make. I haven’t been a magazine person. Sacrilege, right? I mean, I work in the art magazine industry. But, dang, fate played a joke on me. I just needed to find the right magazines. And every issue of American Artist magazine, Drawing magazine, Watercolor magazine, and the rest of our art magazines just do it for me.

First of all, what I am always looking for in an art magazine, or any magazine, is quality content--and I set that bar high, especially for topics I am passionate about. But American Artist magazine delivers. With current and relevant articles about artists that are creating compelling work right now, as well as insightful and thoughtful coverage about historic artists and Old Masters that really allow readers to familiarize themselves with the history of art and the artists who shaped that history.

But I also need a magazine to be a catalyst for me. At the end of every issue, I want to be inspired to get up and do something. With the American Artist titles, that always seems to be what happens. There is practical information about oil painting, drawing, watercolor that makes me want to rush into the studio and paint or draw it out! From step-by-step demonstrations to detailed accounts of painting or drawing processes, I always find a topic or tip that is worth exploring on my own.

And most of all, I want a magazine that is filled with beautiful images. I pride myself on knowing and seeing a lot of art every day, but the paintings and drawings that I find in American Artist magazine, Drawing magazine, Watercolor magazine are as inspiring and gorgeous as if I was taking a tour in any one of the best art museums or galleries in the world.

So, yes, I can say that I am a magazine person now. And with any of our art magazines in your hands, you are likely to be one too! Enjoy!
