In Defense of Digital Publications

Pros:
Cons:
In response to the pricing of digital media I think the general public does not understand that the largest cost of developing any publication has very little to do with the cost of printing. Text needs to be created and edited. Photography taken and edited. Copyright permissions must be obtained and paid for. The staff to all of the work must get a salary. Marketing and the costs associated with it is still the same. All of this and more are wrapped up in the cost of publishing, the printing or electronic digital copies must cover all of these costs plus a profit that allows the business to grow. In the future I would hope that before thinking digital media should be "cheaper" try to think about all of the costs behind the product. Personally I am looking for quality of content, is it good enough to be referenced multiple times? If not, I don't purchase the product.
Almost a Good Idea

Pros:
  • paperless
Cons:
  • overpriced
This just seems overpriced to me. No paper, no ink, no printing costs, no postage. Regular ebooks tend to be about half the hardcover price, and discounted somewhat from the paperback price. These issues are actually MORE expensive than a subscription to the printed magazine. I love the idea of being able to get an electronic version of these magazines, but the pricing really needs to be reconsidered by Interweave.
