Join mixed media and jewelry artist Melinda Barta as she shows you how to create these custom collage charms. They are much easier to make than you think and require only a few supplies. Lovers of mixed media will delight in telling stories with charms embellished with maps, beads, and scrapbook papers.

Materials and Tools:
STEP 1 & 2- Assorted collage items: jump rings, decorative charms, antique watch parts, seed beads, crystal 2-4mm bicones, sequins, and filigree squares, circles, and wings
- Scraps of decorative paper, including patterned scrapbook paper, paper with words, miniature tarot cards, stickers, and postage stamps (for backgrounds)
- Brass, silver-plated, copper, and Thai silver 8-23x15-25mm blank diamond, oval, round, and pointed-oval charms
- Assorted pewter, sterling silver, imitation rhodium, antique copper, and antique brass 24-30mm square, rectangle, round, and teardrop bezel settings
- Epoxy, Amazing Glaze, and/or Diamond Glaze
- Acid-free white craft glue
- Polymer clay (optional)
- Beading thread in colors to match seed beads (optional)
- Pencil
- Size 10 or 12 beading needle (optional)
STEP 3- Scrap paper
- Cotton swab or toothpick
- Paintbrush (optional)
STEP 4- Baking tray
- Parchment paper
- Spoon or small scoop
- Small paintbrush
- Toothpicks
- Polymer clay (optional)
- Heat tool (optional)
STEP 5- 2 small plastic cups and 2 wood stir sticks for mixing
- Rubber or vinyl gloves
- Wax or parchment paper
- Plastic straw
- Toothpicks
BONUS- Sterling silver 22x40mm square, 24x42mm round, 21x42mm oval, or 20x40mm teardrop hinged glass lockets
- Gunmetal and antique brass 35mm and 42mm "pocket watch" lockets
- Scraps of paper or playing cards
- Assorted collage items: bird and bee charms, jump rings, antique watch parts, seed beads, dried seeds, sequins, dried leaves, playing cards, and micro (1mm) glass balls
- Acid-free white craft glue
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Hammer, small flat-head screwdriver, wire cutters, and terry-cloth towel (optional)
