Instructions for Dutch spirals arrived in the United States in 1994 via a Dutch author, Gineke Root, in her book, Innovative Beaded Jewelry Techniques. The dutch spiral stitch lends itself to endless permutations, from easy to difficult, folksy to sophisticated. It is quick to work, allowing you to experiment with different bead combinations. Here is one in subdued browns, metallics, and ivories.
Required Materials: Seed beads, bugle beads, rectangles, cones, hook-and-eye clasp, crimp tubes, beading thread, beading wire. See project for complete list.
Tools Needed: Beading needle, scissors, wire cutters, crimping pliers, dowel. See project for complete list.
Techniques Used: Ladder Stitch, Tubular Herringbone
