Unlike woven fabrics, the interlocked matted fibers of felt can support the tensions of beaded threads without raveling or forming gaping holes. Sculptural forms are easy to pass through, so you can add beads anywhere. Choose a matching color of thread and your stitches will sink into the surface. Or, use a contrasting color to add a blanket-stitch look, as in the picot edging shown here.
