This simple motif reminds designer Kathy Merrick of Persian carpet Boteh (Old Persian for "cluster of leaves"). They can look like leaves, pine cones, pears, or paisleys. Each motif flows gracefully into the next, resulting in a swirled effect, and this lightweight wool yarn lends excellent drape to the whole project. Finished Size: About 4 1/2" wide at widest points and 72" long. Yarn: Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock (80% superwash wool, 20% nylon; 215 yd [190 m]/13/4 oz [50 g]): chino, 2 skeins. Yarn weight: #1 - Super Fine Gauge: 24 sts and 15 rows = 4" in hdc. Needles: Hooks: Size F/5 (4 mm). Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge. Notions: Yarn needle. I have made this scarf more than a dozen times. I have made it lacier by adding spaces between sts, I have use half double crochet for the main bedy of the scarf, I have added picots to the outer sides, and I have even added beads to the outside edges. With imagination, it is just so versatile. the compliments always come and it looks difficult, but it is a very easy pattern.
I just downloaded this pattern and I was wondering how it would look if I shortened the DTR row to a different stitch. I'm thinking it's a little too long. Using an E hook and a little thicker than sock yarn. But I love it!
Thanks, Deb
This scarf is so pretty! I receive complements wherever I go. Plus, being new to crochetting, it was an easy pattern for me to master.
