Now in a convenient eBook format, experience this timeless collection of knitwear designs from Danish designer Marianne Isager.
Classic Knits offers a stitch technique guide and a gallery of design inspiration. You’ll also find 25 traditional, appealing projects worked in basic knit and purl stitch patterns, each with a distinctive design element typical of Marianne's style, be it an interesting combination of yarns, a clever use of stitch pattern, or an unusual form of construction.
Choose the knitting technique you'd like to learn - entrelac, color stranding, double knitting, slip stitch, herringbone, and more - and apply them to your design by first practicing with a gauge swatch. When the swatch is knitted to the correct gauge and the same size as shown in the book, the garment will match the measurements listed in the pattern.
Many of the garments in this book are based on simple knit-purl pattern stitches. None require extensive knitting experience. You only need to know how to cast on, knit, and bind off to successfully complete any project in this book. All other information is provided in sidebars and the Glossary. Plus, if you have trouble with the finishing process, don't worry, the garments have been designed to require as little finishing as possible. Several of the garments are worked from the top down, so it's easy to add or remove rows to customize the lengths.
If you're looking for innovative knitwear designs that include a variety of knitting techniques - and you want versatility on where you knit - Classic Knits eBook, is just for you! Foreword

Abbreviations Glossary Sources for Yarn Index Marianne Isager was born in Denmark, growing up in northern Jutland among the windswept moors that overlook the North Sea. She graduated from Denmark’s Design School in Copenhagen and over the years has taught at design and crafts schools all over Denmark. Marianne has also joined in projects aimed at teaching groups of knitters living around the world. From sheep-farmer women in southern Greenland to a women group in Kathmandu and the knitting men of Taquile Island in Lake Titicaca, Peru.
Marianne has compiled her many journeys and teaching into a series of knitting books inspired from many parts of the world, and more are in the pipeline. The models in her books primarily stem from the different textiles and ceramics of the countries she has visited, but her ideas also flow from nature, everyday objects or even films and fairy tales. Despite these eclectic influences, her patterns still bear the hallmark of the simple Scandinavian style.
Marianne Isager enjoys touring the country and holding lectures on her travel experiences and inspiration for her knitting designs.
For a big part of the year she lives in Japan, but she is always in her shop / workshop in Tannisby, Denmark during the summertime.
