These socks, perfect for slipping on before hitt ing the chilly floor in the morning, are fun to make from cuff to toe! The variety of stitches—from the alternating front and back post to the shell leg and extended single-crochet heel—keep you engaged without angst as yarn shifts color from row to row. Best of all, they’re very stretchy and comfortable—our model was planning to make a pair for herself.

Finished Size 71⁄2 (8, 83⁄4, 9, 91⁄2, 101⁄2)” leg circumference. Socks shown measure 9”.

Yarn Universal Yarn Bamboo Sock (50% superwash merino wool, 25% bamboo, 25% nylon; 459 yd [420 m]/31⁄2 oz [100 g]): #275 deep sea, 1 skein.

Yarn Weight #1 – Super Fine

Hook Size D/3 (3.25 mm). Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Notions Stitch markers (m); yarn needle.

Gauge 61⁄2 sh and 16 rows = 4" in sh patt.

I love the look of these socks, and I tried to figure them out for a few days. I ripped out so many stitches and still couldn''t manage to get it right. The underside of the heel is really the problem. When you get around to the top of the foot, it just tells you to continue in the established shell pattern, but if you do that (starting with a shell in the marked sc on the edge), you end up increasing stitches instead of decreasing like you''re supposed to be. I think there might be a mistake in the pattern? I tried several different ways of approaching it, yet I still managed to somehow be increasing every round. If you''re not a super experienced sock crocheter, I would steer away from this pattern.
