Buffalo fiber knit socks.

Buffalo yarn is the ultimate in luxurious warmth. In fact, buffalo fiber offers such excellent insulation that a herd of buffalo in a snowstorm looks like a group of white rocks - the animals' coats hold in their body heat. The yarn seems to expand as you knit it, producing a lush, velvety texture. For these slipper socks, Ann Budd modified the traditional feather-and-fan pattern to make a short wavy lace cuff.

I knit these for my daughter, Rebecca, for her 43rd birthday. I used vintage wool (Berocco) and she absolutely loves them. Wishes that she could wear them to work...I am going to make more for Christmas gifts this year and the odd birthday present. Betty Collins
