The Dusseldorf Aran adds dressmaker touches to a modern Aran sweater. Fiona Ellis moves and crosses strands from three separate rope cables to create an intricately knotted effect: The strands of the center rope split and twine around traveling interior strands from the outer cables in orderly succession. I-cord— adorned pleating at the cuffs creates the impression of cable strands spilling beyond the fabric’s edges.

Finished Size: 31½ (35½ , 40, 44, 48½ , 52½ )" bust circumference. Sweater shown measures 35½ ", modeled with 1½ " positive ease.

Yarn: Zitron Gobi (40% merino, 30% camel, 30% alpaca; 88 yd [80 m]/50 g): #10 blue/gray, 13 (14, 15, 16, 18, 20) balls. Yarn distributed by Skacel.

Yarn Weight: #3 - Light

Needles: Size 8 (5 mm): straight, 16" circular (cir), and double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Cable needle (cn); stitch holders; markers (m); tapestry needle.

Gauge: 19 sts and 26 rows = 4" in St st; 46 sts in cable panel patt for back and front measure about 6½ " wide; 24 sts in cable panel patt for sleeves measure about 3¼ " wide.
