Knitting in two tones or in two colors with graphic contrast, the designer lets crown shaping turn simple slanting twist stitches into anenome-like swirls in these caps.
Finished Size: 18 (21, 21 1???2, 24)" head circumference. Two smaller sizes are worked with chunky-weight yarn; two larger sizes are worked with Aran (or worsted) weight yarn. Navy/purple hat shown measures 18"; light grey/dark grey hat shown measures 24".
Yarn: Chunky hats: Naturally Alpine Chunky 14-ply (100% wool; 240 yd [220 m]/200 g): #3015 light grey (MC) and #3016 dark grey (CC), 1 skein each. Aran hats: Naturally Alpine Aran 10-ply (100% wool; 364 yd [333 m]/200 g): #2004 navy (MC) and #2006 purple (CC), 1 skein each. Yarns distributed by Fiber Trends.
Yarn weight: #4 - Medium, #5 - Bulky
Gauge: Chunky hats: 16 sts and 18 rnds = 4" in st patt; Aran hats: 20 sts and 26 rnds = 4" in st patt.
Needles: Chunky hats???size 9 (5.5 mm): 16" circular (cir); size 10 1???2 (6.5 mm): 16" cir and set of double-pointed (dpn). Aran hats???size 4 (3.5 mm): 16" cir; size 6 (4 mm): 16" cir and set of dpn. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
