Lace patterns don't need to be worked in a fine yarn to be effective. A worsted-weight linen/rayon blend knits up into an attractive lace trim on an otherwise unadorned wrap cardigan. A piped edging in a subtle contrast color marks the transition between the stockinette-stitch body and lace border; it's made by picking up stitches along the front and neck edges and knitting a few rows before binding off. When the separate lace border is sewn on, the picked-up edging is folded and sewn down at the same time. Add a ribbon tie or cinch with a thin belt.

Needles: Size 4 (3.5 mm): straight; Size 6 (4 mm) straight and 32" circular (cir); Size 9 (5.5 mm): 32" cir. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Size F/5 (3.75 mm) crochet hook; tapestry needle; removable markers or waste yarn.
