The simple square body is bordered with a striped garter-stitch edging, mitered at the corners, which is picked up and knitted after the sweater is finished. The center front zipper is guided up and down with a corded pull embellished with three-color pom-poms. Kristin Nicholas is the author of two recent books on embroidery, Kids' Embroidery (Stewart, Tabori & Chang, 2004) and Colorful Stitchery (Storey, 2005). Yarn: Nashua Handknits Julia (50% wool, 25% kid mohair, 25% alpaca; 93 yd [85 m]/50 g): #8141 pretty pink (MC), 5 (5, 7) balls; #6416 midnight blue, 2 balls; #2083 magenta, 1 ball. Yarn distributed by Westminster Fibers.
Yarn weight: #4 - Medium
Gauge: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4" (10 cm) in St st with larger needles.
Needles: Body and sleeves-size 7 (4.5 mm): straight. Edging-size 6 (4 mm): 32" (80-cm) circular (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
