Creative Time and Space: Making Room for Making Art

Freeman-Zachary wants to help artists discover how to make their art space the best place for them to “unleash their artistic potential” and has gathered a group of talented artists (many of whom you’ll recognize from the pages of Cloth Paper Scissors and Quilting Arts) to accomplish that goal. The first five chapters are devoted to time: how to organize it, how to get started, how to get out of a rut, and more. The second five are all about space, but not only physical spaces. It’s more about the mental space artists allow for their creative thoughts and ideas. There are hints, tips, meditations, and exercises to help readers learn ways to preserve that artistic space and also how to respect it. We get a glimpse into some special studios, and even space “on the road” is covered. I especially like the side bars and boxes with useful and fun information: Try this, A Day in the Life of…, Solutions, and Setting Studio Boundaries, to name a few. Definitely put this one on your list.
