Using gelatin from your pantry, fabric paints, and your hands or a brayer, discover a fun, versatile way to print wonderful texture and detail on your fabrics. Unpredictable, creative, and easy, this way of working will bring out your "inner child." There's no such thing as a mistake, so come and play!
Materials list:
Note: Recipe below makes one 8" x 8" plate (For two plates you need 8 envelopes of Knox® gelatin)- One 8" x 8" foil cake pan (You could also use a pie tin for a round plate.)
- Knox® gelatin, 4 envelopes, to make 1 gelatin plate
- Light-colored cottons (commercial or hand-dyed; large pieces or scraps), 2 or more yards
- Textile paints of various colors (Whatever you have, as long as it is water-based.)
- Freezer paper
- Parchment paper for ironing paints to heat set
- Paper towels
- Plastic bag
- Iron
- Scissors
- Cookie cutters
- Six 1" foam brushes
- Small water color-type brushes, 1 or more
- Rubber brayers, 2
- Plastic spoons or spatulas
- Textured or 'found' objects, such as drawer pulls, string, keys, lace, leaves, plants, doilies, onion bags, sink mats, bubble padding, etc. (Anything relatively flat with texture or open weave; use your imagination.)
- Rubber stamps
Optional- Mat, ruler, and rotary cutter for cutting fabric
- X-acto knife (optional)
