About the Author

David Dean, a noted beadworker, learned his craft from relatives in the Choctaw tribe and has been producing Native American crafts for more than 30 years. As a dancer on the powwow circuit, Dean teaches Straight Dance clothing and history, as well as Gourd Dance clothing and history. He served two terms as chairman of the Texas Indian Hobbyist Association and is a member of Tecumseh Lodge and the Lone Star War Dance Society. He dances frequently with the White Bear War Dance Society and has participated in several dances in Oklahoma. Dean is currently the district director of the Illowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Dean is the author of Craft of the Mind, Art of the Soul, and Native Pockets.
