The one-piece body and sleeves are worked separately to the underarms then joined for working the saddle shoulder yoke. Finishing is quick, with just the sleeves to seam and the underarms to graft. Hook-and-eyes complete the clean front finish associated with naval dress coats from the Regency era.
Finished Size: 32 (34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44)" bust circumference, closed. Cardigan shown measures 32".
Yarn: String Theory Merino DK (100% superwash Merino; 280 yd [256m]/4 oz [113 g]): cobalt, 4 (5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5) skeins.
Needles: Size 6 (4 mm): two 29" or longer circular (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge, and choose a needle length close to desired chest circumference.
Notions: Markers (m); cable needle (cn); coil-less safety pins or locking stitch markers; stitch holders or waste yarn; tapestry needle; 7 hook-and-eye sets; sharp-point sewing needle and matching thread.
Gauge: 20 sts and 30 rows = 4" in St st; 8 sts of Vertical Aran Braid at each front edge measure about 3/4" wide; 32 sts (8 patt reps) of Horizontal Aran Braid measure about 31/4" wide.
