Refashion a colorful woven throw rug into a sturdy market tote that folds flat for carrying, but opens wide to hold a day’s worth of shopping fun. The pre-finished rug edges make this a quick-to-sew project.
Fabric Requirements:
— 2’ × 3’ (61 cm × 91.5 cm) throw rug
— 1⁄3 yd (30.5 cm) of coordinating lightweight cotton for insert cover
Other Supplies— 5 1/2" × 16" (14 cm × 40.5 cm) piece of acrylic for bag bottom support (change the dimensions if necessary to match rug variations; see Notes)
— Coordinating sewing thread
— Size 100/16 to 110/18 sewing machine needle
— 32" (81.5 cm) leather purse handles
— Walking foot for sewing machine (optional)
