The polygonal shape is knit first, then its eight-limbed resident. You can also work the shapes separately, stuff them, and sew them closed.
Finished Size: Octopus: 13" tall from top of head to tip of arms; octahedron: 4" square laid flat, extends to about 5¾ " tall. 
Yarn: Rowan Amy Butler Belle Organic DK (50% organic wool, 50% organic cotton; 131 yd [120 m]/50 g): #007 cinnamon (orange; MC) and #014 robin’s egg (blue; CC), 1 skein each. Yarn distributed by Westminster Fibers. 
Yarn Weight: #1 - Super Fine      
Needles: Size 5 (3.75 mm): 16" circular (cir) and set of 5 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle sizes if necessary to obtain the correct gauge. 
Notions:  Marker (m); removable markers or safety pins; tapestry needle; size G/6 (4 mm) crochet hook; smooth waste yarn for provisional CO and holders. 
Gauge:  22 sts and 28 rows = 4" in St st.
