Julie is spunky and lots of fun! Her way of teaching is so laid back but definitely draws your attention. She uses tons of things that are found around the house and things that you would normally consider trash. She shows you many, many how-to techniques while using simple methods...the results? Absolutely stunning! I'm soooo happy that I purchased this video! You will not waste your money on's a must have!

This lady is so talented - not only with her fabulous art and creations but also at making it all seem so easy & honestly, it is! Julie has the knack of being able to explain the in's & out's of using all the products out there in the mixed media market and make beautiful works of art. Buy this, you will not regret it!

Collage Fast & Furious Review by elizabeth malafi

This is my favorite of all the Interweave DVDs I have purchased - mostly because Juli Fei-Fan Balzer is the best teacher I have ever encountered online. Her exuberance shines through and makes me eager to learn. She explains techniques well and her demonstrations make it really easy to follow along. I will buy any DVD by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer.

such an exciting class Review by marti wills

i am halfway through this video class and i can't remember when i have had such an incredible class! julie accomplishes two things when she teaches - first and foremost she is just incredibly talented and i have learned SO MUCH from her. second and equally important - she has an exceptional ability to convey that information clearly and make it so much fun. this is critical for folks who teach. she makes it look easy and doable for anyone - my 5 year old daughter is working on the lessons right along-side of me and having a blast!

Upbeat & Easy Review by Teresa DeGoede

She takes the scary out of being creative, so if you're hesitating to begin, like I was, this is a great workshop to get. She gives you freedom to explore and experiment and have fun. I enjoyed all the different techniques she taught and her positive attitude. These workshops are so worth it because you can pause them and play them as many times as you want.. I am looking forward to any other workshops she makes in the future.

Packed with techniques Review by Suzanna Keller

A fabulous video. First, I enjoyed Julie's very natural manner and was doubly impressed that her descriptions and explanations seemed to anticipate every question that might arise. The workshop is so full of accessible techniques that I'm really glad I can watch it again and again. In fact, it's better value than an in-person class, just for this reason.

Great DVD--Full of Wonderful Ideas Review by Julie Filatoff

I buy any Interweave (or other) DVD that strikes my fancy on the theory that it is much cheaper than traveling to take a class. In fact, it's even cheaper than when Interweave's Bead Fest comes to *my hometown* and I take a class. I'm a big fan of the work of Julie Fei-Fan Balzer. It's colorful, thought-provoking, and messy (in a good way). JFFB also has a great personality. If you were going to be marooned on an island, for example, you'd want her with you. So I was happy to find that she'd filmed a DVD workshop for Cloth Paper Scissors entitled "Collage Fast & Furious!" I've already watched it twice, and I KNOW I want to watch it again--Julie gives you so many great tips, you can't absorb it all in one viewing. One of the things I particularly liked was how she creates textured foundations on which to paint. You start with gesso--then slap into it with the paintbrush or draw lines with a plastic fork (as I did in the flower example on my blog). She also suggests "gluing" small pieces of batting on the gesso with more gesso (as I did with triangles). I used water-soluble oil pastels for the flower art, then used a flower-shaped rubber stamp to "discharge" the background (spray, stamp, blot). For the triangles art I used chalk pastels which I rubbed in with my fingers, then used dark blue and white pastel around the triangles to really make them "pop" from the background. I've done very little drawing or painting since I got my bachelor's degree in art lo those many years ago. And guess what? I love it! And I love this DVD.

Wonderful instruction - not much new though Review by Debbie Keahey

First, I'm not a big fan of Julie's primitive, 'outsider' art, but bought this because after seeing the preview her presentation style was just irresistible! She really makes you feel like you are there in the studio with her, and has a wonderful, outgoing, free-spirited presence and great sense of humour. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the video. However, I have to say that counter to what another reviewer said I don't think most 'professional artists' would learn much from this. The techniques are mostly familiar from dozens of other sources and there is nothing new in the way of design. That said, for a beginner or anyone who just wants to spend a fun afternoon with a cool instructor, this is a great value.

Collage Fast & Furious Review by NULL NULL

Julie Fei-Fan Balzer is a delight. Her generous personality beams from the screen and the inspiring techniques come thick and fast. Both beginners who have had no art training and professional artists looking to diversify will find encouragement and stimulation. Thank you Julie! An excellent product.

Fast and Furiously trying these techniques. Review by Jill Blevins

It was the right video at the right time. The information and techniques presented in this workshop really spurred me to create. I now have a craft room with a whole bunch of backgrounds in various stages. Julie Fei-Fan Balzer was a delight to watch and listen to. I''ve learned a host of new ways to get started on projects. One big thing that will help me is the idea of having a multitude of backgrounds ready for when the creative urge hits. The minute I finished watching I had to run to my craft room and get started. I''ve now got 6 or 8 in progress (the only reason there aren''t more is because I''ve run out of room!). Thank you Julie, I''m now on a hunt for more videos by you.
