Learn simple tricks to create your own unique fiber colors.

There’s magic in color, but creating wonderful color for spinning and felting is what you might call “practical” magic. Start with colored fiber – natural or dyed. Add a blending tool (a drum carder is Deb’s choice). Mix and play using some simple, basic color principles – and there’s no limit to the possibilities. With Deb’s relaxed, enthusiastic guidance, you’ll learn:

  • Basic blending techniques
  • The language of color, which is the key to successful blending
  • Working with hue, value, and saturation
  • A down-to-earth approach to almost-perfect color matching
  • Working with color harmonies
  • Combining multiple blended batts
  • And much more.

Watching the colors roll off Deb’s drum carder is endlessly fascinating, and every new exercise suggests a hundred more that you’ll want to try for yourself. It’s an endless adventure.

Very Basic Colorwheel & Drum Carding Review by Julie
Rating

I was a bit disappointed in this one, very, very basic especially from someone with such an extensive color background. If you have no concept of color wheels, complimentary colors, hues, shades the information is good. It's not as technical as I like, but great for someone who is non-technical (right-brain) approach.

Color Works for Spinners Review by Lynn Lefebvre

All in all, I enjoyed the DVDs and learned a lot about colour. However, I have one complaint and that is there were not enough close-ups of her finished products. She invites the viewer to see this or that characteristic but the camera shot stays stubbornly far back. Very frustrating!

Excellent video! Review by Debra L Erikson

Deb Menz walks us through some fairly advanced uses of the color wheel - all while making it quite simple, clear, and achievable. She reinforces we can't go wrong while teaching color theory. I own all of her books and love this addition to my video library. I thought this would just be an interesting repeat of her previous work, but think I will come back to this again and again. I predict she will continue to bring solid color theory to the masses in a fun and accessible manner.
