There is a sense of magic and wonder in color—finding crimson in a drab insect, pairing two unexpected colors for a stunning result, growing cotton in green instead of the expected white, turning an ugly piece beautiful with a single dip in the dyebath. But, as crafters and fiber artists all know, working with color can be intimidating and frustrating. Colorways gives you the tools to experiment with, practice, and ultimately master using color in your work.

Combining the excitement of discovery with the satisfaction of practice, Colorways lets you:

  • Learn new skills for dyeing and applying color
  • Explore ethnic color traditions from around the world
  • Meet extraordinary teachers and fiber artists

From natural plant dyes of the Mexican highlands, to sun prints using persimmon juice from Japan, to the natural colors available in cotton; the articles, videos, and photographs in Colorways present a breathtaking spectrum to use in fiber, yarn, and cloth.

Color has rich historical roots, and Colorways explores the techniques and traditions used around the world while showing you how to try these traditions for yourself through:

  • 3 step-by-step dyeing tutorials (as PDF downloads)
  • 13 videos
  • 7 slide shows
  • 10 interactive in-depth articles

From choosing colored fiber through adding color to finished cloth, this eMag will help you gain the confidence to experiment with all forms of color in textiles!

Explore the world of color in textiles and learn new ways of adding color to your own work.

Colorways, Summer 2011 (eMag) Review by Nancy S. Cowell

I enjoyed the articles and will find them useful as I dye yarns to sell, especially the articles on natural dyeing as I do quite a bit of it. I wish that this was a hard copy magazine rather than an eMag as I am not a big fan of this format. I didn't feel that the eMag was really a great value for the money either, could have been bigger for the $9.95 although I did also recently purchase the Fall issue, but haven't had a chance to read it all.

Colorways Bridges the Gap Review by Ames Hall

I really enjoyed this first issue of Colorways. I've been interested in AIR applications and this one hits a home run. Stylish, beautifully design and USEFUL. Once I figured out the interface and navigation, I liked that the articles were generous in length and had practical information in them as well. I was so inspired by the Kakishibu article that I ordered the product and made a whole series of silk scarves from it. It's my new favorite thing. Thanks for the new and innovative ideas that go with an innovative format. It seems like so much is written for the least common denominator and is just rehashed old news.

Colorways, Summer 2011 Review by Nancy Kilkenny

I was very impressed with the gorgeous layout of the Colorways eMag. Every spread was beautiful and easy to navigate, filled with helpful information. I was particularly pleased with the number of videos as well as documents I was able to print out and use for further instruction. I've already purchased the Fall issue. Well done!

Colourways, summer 2011 Review by Sandra Massey

I really enjoyed this issue and look forward to more. The staff was so helpful when I selected the wrong computer to download to. I even enjoyed the advertisements. t would be nice to have more information as to where to find the products they are writing about. I tried to find a north american source for Kakishibu but came up empty handed. I would also like it if I could transfer it between my Mac and and ipad which would definitely place and ipad on my wish list :)
