Description

Wool combing is a little alarming to the novice – swinging heavy implements with long, needle-sharp teeth can be hazardous. Yet this method of preparation produces the most wonderfully organized, fluffy, silky fiber imaginable. In this workshop, Robin Russo covers the basics and much, much more.

  • You’ll see a wide range of tools in action, from simple pet combs to hand-held Viking combs, to Russian paddle combs, to classic English combs.
  • You’ll learn that combing is perfect for cleaning out guard hairs and debris, for blending fibers of similar length, and for true worsted spinning.
  • You’ll see how different combs are appropriate for different fibers, and how to choose the kind that’s best for you.
  • You’ll learn important guidelines for safety and for equipment care and maintenance.
  • And you’ll hear intriguing stories of wool combing in history, from martyred saints to craftsmen’s guilds.

Must have to understand the difference between combing and carding Review by Lorraine
Rating

This is a very useful video that made me truly understand why you would comb the wool rather than card it. It inspired me to order my first set of combs and to venture into doing my own fiber preparations. Well worth the money.

Excellent Review by Monica

I had no problems with downloading and viewing the video. It's one of the best purchases I ever made. I had been doing some combing, but this video put it all together for me. Am now able to take pretty grubby fleece and turn it quickly into flawless top. I am also blending by combing and love the results.

Combing Fiber - Great Video! Review by Annette Edler

I really liked this video, it was a great buy! Especially for a beginner the all-together information is worth every penny. Others before me had commented more, so I am not going to repeat again.

A really instructive video Review by Eddie Charlett-Green

I have not watched all of this video yet, but what I have seen is first-rate. Robin gives clear instruction and shows quite clearly what she is doing. She uses different types of combs, and explains which combs she would use with which fibre (sorry, UK spelling!). There are no distractions, her diction is clear and understandable. I thoroughly recommend this video to anyone interested in learning to use combs to prepare fibre for spinning.

Combing fiber Review by Catherine Dufendach

This is exactly what I needed to get started. You really need to WATCH someone do this before you tackle this skill. I feel confident now that I won't gore myself and can produce some finely prepared fiber for true worsted spinning. If you have been wanting to try this, this is what you need to get started. Video is well-produced with good close-ups and excellent detail.
