Doily Tank

Two doilies, worked in sturdy cotton, are used as a stencil to create a sun-ready tank. It's as much fun to make as it is to wear.

Crocheted doilies act as a stencil on a dark cotton tank when misted with household bleach. Branch out by using any crochet motif you can think of and add them to tops, pants, bags, and more!
Finished Size: Large motif measures 11” in diameter. Small motif measures 9” in diameter.
Yarn: Any color of worsted weight cotton yarn. It is dense, smooth, and heavy enough to stay in place. Original project uses Lion Brand, lion cotton (100% cotton; 236 yd [215 m]/5 oz [142 g]; CYCA #4): 152, espresso, less than half of a skein.
Yarn Weight: #4 - Medium
Hook: Size I/9 (5.5 mm). Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Notions: Yarn needle; tank top (95% cotton, keep in mind that darker colors will show most results); small spray bottle; household liquid bleach; plastic trash bags; masking tape; rubber gloves; bucket of water, one 8oz bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide 3%.
Gauge: Work through round 3 of smaller motif. This should measure about 4.5” in diameter. Gauge is not really that important for this project. Ensure the motif is a size that looks good to you and there is enough space between stitches to make a lacy pattern.
