Learn about torch fired enameling, fold forming, and other must-know metalsmithing skills with these detailed technique directions. Once you master the techniques, create your own varying jewelry designs using these techniques.
Required Materials:
  • 26 gauge fine silver sheet
  • 20 gauge sterling silver wire or commercial ear wires
  • Thompson Unleaded Enamels #2335, 2320 & 2660 (for accurate color match)
  • Klyre-Fire binder
  • Distilled water
  • Masking tape
  • HAND: Isometric ellipse template, black fine point permanent marker, 2 bottle caps, jeweler's saw, saw blades #4/0, 400 grit sanding stick, riveting hammer, rawhide or plastic mallet
  • FIRING: Soldering torch (not hand-held butane) with fire-safe setup area, soldering tripod 8" or taller, 14 gauge soldering screen/firing rack, 3 point enameling trivet 1.5" x 1.5", ½"
  • ENAMELING: Enameling sifter, drill, #52 drill bit, center punch, paper towels and paper plate, fine mist spray bottle, insulated grip tweezers
  • FiNISHING: Brass brush, alundum stone or diamond cloth or wet/ dry sandpaper #400, 3M Radial Bristle disc #400 ( blue)
  • SAFETY: Dust mask, UV filtering safety glasses
