Even on our fanciest occasions, modern-day dress rarely holds a candle to period fashions. The beautiful Empire-waist dresses of Jane Austen's day would be perfectly accented in a jacket like this—enough to keep the chill off while wearing a plunging neckline, but fitted enough to let the beautiful lines of the dress show through.
