Join mixed-media artist Jane LaFazio to discover her simple, stress-free way to keep an illustrated journal.

You’ll learn how to draw what you see and how to paint with watercolor.

After discussing the basic supplies she uses, Jane shares strategies for successful drawing.

Next, she teaches how to mix colors and paint in a loose, intuitive style to visually record the details from your life and travels.

In the third chapter, Jane demonstrates simple, effective ways to complete your journal pages (such as journaling and using ink lines to frame your work), making each one a pleasing composition.

Finally, Jane explores numerous ways to incorporate your original artwork into mixed-media and sewing projects with transfers, stamping, free-motion stitching, and collage.

Review by Patricia Porche

I enjoyed the workshop. Great tips on framing paintings. Loved seeing how to use the techniques in other mixed media projects. I do think however, that the inclusion of a student in chapter 2 could have been omitted.

Beautiiful Art Review by Daniela Mellen

While the artist is clearly very talented, I found this video lacking instruction and cohesion. Jane LaFazio does beautiful work and spends a lot of time showcasing her work. I expected more instruction and less of a gallery of her work. The video was divided into chapters, but each chapter seemed done on the fly, with little preparation (other than keeping a stack of her beautiful watercolors). The "script" seemed very much thought of on the spot, rather than planned. An early chapter featured another artist who was unfamiliar with drawing and Ms. LaFazio instructed her throughout the scene. It was poorly done, with both women competing for attention of the viewer. The student attempted to redirect Ms. LaFazio back to the task at hand, but the instruction seemed to be an afterthought, as they chatted, rather than the focus. The big art tip for adding text was about adding a signature to the watercolor with a pencil and then going over it with ink. I was disappointed as I expected more about adding text to an art journal entry. I admire Ms. LaFazio's work, but was looking for instruction, not a glance at her portfolio.

From art journaling to art...Jane Lafazio Review by Bonnie Miller

Absolutely fabulous! My grandsons and I have enjoyed watching a segment then going to my shed to practise. It is easy to follow, and so removes all fear. Thanks to Jane for her generosity.

Just average Review by Debra Gash

Our viewers felt this DVD was skimpy on content. Contrary to other reviewers, we found it unnecessary and distracting to watch Pokey and Jane interact. There simply wasn't enough content here for the money.

Unknown Review by Merri Heineman

I've wanted to draw and paint for a while and this wonderful dvd got me going. I love Jane's 'just do it' attitude. There's a lot of information packed into 1 hour, so you may have to watch it several times. Jane has opened up a whole new world for me - I love art journaling!

Wonderful afternoon with Jane LaFazio Review by Jeannie Evans-van Hoff

I spent a wonderful afternoon with Jane via this dvd. Her easy teaching style and beautiful artwork prompted me to immediately watch it again. Jane gives you good advice on drawing & watercolor. Watching Pokey follow directions was a blast. If that wasn't enough, Jane proceeds to show you how to take your artwork to the next level with composistion and incorporating you artwork into mixed media and fabric. This dvd easily could be expanded to 5 hours of instruction and I hope plans for more indepth drawing and painting instruction are on the "drawing board". Thank you Jane and Interweave for a wonderful dvd.
