destined to become a classic! Review by Susan

This new book by Lynn Krawczyk is destined to become a classic reference resource for anyone interested in surface design. There is so much more to this book than just being a how to technique. Lynn takes a full circle approach starting by showing the reader how to develop their own signature printing style by suggesting that they take a good look at the colors, themes and processes that speak to them rather than just jumping in and hoping that serendipity will yield a positive result. She then takes the lesson one step further by encouraging the reader to think about how the printed cloth will be used rather than just treating the printing process as creating cloth to be folded and stashed away. This two part approach allows the reader to develop a more intentional way of working which in turn will lead to less reliance on serendipity and more confidence in their own printing skills. The book covers a huge range of printing techniques ranging from color-wash printing, drawing and stamping to shadow, thermofax and decay printing. Readers will also find a chapter dedicated to handstitching and one that explores two types of layered printing techniques. The final chapter includes a range of unique and clever projects to create using your newly printed cloth. This book is an excellent resource and is highly recommended!

Much better than I thought it would be Review by Lesley

I have a few surface design books and wondered if I had made a mistake buying this one. I have only had it a couple of days but reading the first chapter has given me new direction.
As I delve further I am sure my mixed media will develop greatly.
Brilliant for beginners too.

Excellent and Engaging Review by Jeannie

I hesitated to purchase yet another surface design book, but I love Lynn's blog and artwork. I also knew that Lynn would not allow a book with her name on it to be published if it wasn't outstanding. I bit and was not disappointed. The first chapter hit me between the eyes. Lynn describes her journey and approach to creating beautiful artwork in a frank and honest way. I saw myself in much of what she said and have re-read that chapter many times in the past week. Going beyond the first chapter is a treat. Lynn has techniques that I had never explored and was so happy to see new ways to add paint to cloth. The photography is abundant and gorgeous. Lynn's writing makes you feel like you are sitting with her and talking about creating - so engaging! You will not be disappointed in this book. It has something for everyone - beginner to advanced surface designer. Most of the techniques can be applied to paper for the mixed media folks. I am over the moon happy with this purchase. I hope Lynn has more books on her list to write, as I know they will be exceptional like this one.

Excellent! Review by Deb H

As a surface designer I was familiar with most of the techniques presented in the book - that said, Lynn's sections on the various techniques gave me fresh perspective and completely new ideas for design execution. But, the real gold was in the first half of the book. Reading her frank discussion on her approach to art making provided several new insights for me. I consider this a must-read for any artist, no matter your medium.
