This hat was inspired by a line from Meredith Nicholson’s 1905 novel The House of a Thousand Candles: “There is something jaunty, a suggestion of spirit and independence in a tam-o’-shanter, particularly a red one.”
Finished Size: 22 (24½)" circumference at brim, 32¾ (35¼)" circumference at widest point. Hat shown in size 22"
Yarn: Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK (100% extrafine merino; 127 yd [116 m]/ 50 g): #0167 red hot, 2 (3) skeins Yarn distributed by Knitting Fever
Yarn Weight: #4 - Medium
Needles: Size 6 (4 mm): straight needles and 2 double-pointed needles (dpn), Size 4 (3.5 mm) needles
Notions: Markers (m), Yarn needle
Gauge: 20 sts and 40 rows = 4" in garter stitch on larger needle
