Inspired by the inner socks worn by Albanian men in the early twentieth century, these start with an unusual swirl toe.

These socks get a modern twist with the use of soft merino yarn, patterning on the instep, and the Kitchener stitch instead of Bosnian crochet to close the heel.
Finished Size: About 5 (5½, 6)" (12.5 [14, 15] cm) foot circumference, and 9 (9½, 10)" (23 [24, 25.5] cm) long from back of heel to tip of toe; foot length is adjustable. Socks shown measure 6" (15 cm) and fit a woman’s U.S. size 8 shoe. 
Yarn: Shown here: Ella Rae Lace Merino (100% superwash merino; 460 yd [421 m]/100 g): #26 sand stone, 1 skein.  
Yarn Weight: #1 - Super Fine  
Needles:  U.S. size 1 (2.25 mm): set of 5 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge. 
Notions:  Marker (m); waste yarn; tapestry needle. 
Gauge: 36 sts and 56 rnds = 4" (10 cm) in St st.
