About the Author

BILL FRETZ fell in love with jewelry making his junior year in high school, trained at the School for American Craftsmen at R.I.T in Rochester, New York, and taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art before opening his first workshop in 1970. Bill and his wife, Marian, moved to Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1974, the same year both were in the World Silver Show in Mexico City. Over the past decade, Bill turned his love of silversmithing tools into a business that has grown from a small line of jeweler’s stakes to a complete line of stakes and hammers manufactured by his son Jordan’s workshop in Vietnam.

Metalsmith Essentials: Basic Jewelry Hammering and Forming Review by Anita Hearn

These videos by Bill Fretz were interesting and very informative. I am relative new to metalsmithing and would like to pursue this area in the near future. The videos are a valuable reference for me when that time comes. He is very thorough and explains not only his tools, but every step of each project. You won't be disappointed. I also wrote about the videos on my blog, shared on FBook.

Metalsmith Essentials: Basic Jewelry Hammering and Forming DVD Review by Tom Suter

This is about the best done dvd I have bought. I probably own 30 or more. The quality of the recording is excellent as well as Bill's presentation. I would like to see the tool list that you can download be more project related than a overall of tools you need. There is one hammer that I just can not seem to find anywhere that he used. I owned a few of his hammers already had looked at the stakes but was not sure how to use them but clearly now you can see how to use them. Great job and can't wait to watch #2
