Description
In Northern Knits Gifts, knitwear and textile designer Lucinda Guy continues her exploration of folk-knitting traditions in this colorful volume of small projects and accessories. You'll learn some of the traditional knitting techniques of Scandinavia, Estonia, Iceland, and the Faroe and Shetland islands, through modern interpretations of such heritage techniques as twined knitting, two-color knitting, lace techniques, damask, fair isle, embroidery, and rya (knotted knitting similar to shag carpet).

Northern Knits Gifts embraces the Danish notion of hygge– taking pleasure in comforting and cozy things, which is often associated with family and close friends. The 20 projects include mittens, socks, hats, scarves, and bags, and are perfect for wearing and gifting. Emphasizing pattern and color, these knitted designs also embody the Scandinavian aesthetic of making utilitarian objects beautiful as well as useful.

Additionally, the book celebrates the specific wools traditionally used in each project. Immerse yourself in Lucinda's world as you enjoy thumbnail sketches of the history and folk culture surrounding each technique.

Book is fabulous, processing email is spam Review by Helen
Rating

I love this book, great designs, but the processing email I got landed in my spam folder and I deleted it, because it was formatted as phishing. I tried to give feedback to the processing company and I got a form email asking for more info? Extremely poor customer service and I'm very disappointed that a great company like Interweave actually tolerates this dismal level of service. This is not my first purchase from Interweave, but I have never received a phishing email from them before.

Gets your Knitting Juices Flowing! Review by Judith
Rating

This nice little book will inspire you to hit that stash of yarn with super cute projects. There are easy to follow instructions for various hats, socks, scarves and sweaters. I love the color charts, and while I'm adept at two color knitting, I actually learned to do a lace stitch. Traditional Scandinavian patterns are explained and handy references for yarns and needles.

Don't Be Intimidated Review by Mary
Rating

The picture on the cover does not carry through the entire book. There are several easy two color patterns, which do not get knitted from top to bottom of the project. This is an excellent book to learn from, if you are interested in trying something new with your basic skills. There are both graphs and written patterns. The Glossary, Cast-Ons, and various stitch embellishment examples are easy to understand. There are items for baby, child, men, and women.
