This project is portable right up until it is put together. Every other round of the motif is worked in back-post double crochet that tips the top loops of the previous row forward, creating a ridge of punctuating color. The hexagons are joined on the right side with a single crochet that mimics the ridge.

Painted turtle Review by Susan Mays

Pattern very well written, easy to follow. I made a smaller version using a camouflage varigated Center and green outer squares. I then used the hunter orange for connecting the hexagons and the outer border. This afghan was made for a 6 month old male. I also made a green toboggan with a variegated stripe and an orange stripe. I am sure he will enjoy his Birth afghan for a long time. I personally can't wait to see a pic of him with it.
