Room for improvement Review by Diana

There were good points: nice organization, excellent combination suggestions, and some interesting motifs. but there were weak areas, too. First, I hated the color choices. I thought they were dull, and some of the pairings were downright ugly. Second, I noticed there were no diagrams for the knitted motifs. Diagrams for rounds may not have been available when the book was created, but Briar's StitchMaps.com is a great current resource (maybe for the next edition?). Third, I believe authors should always provide basics for beginners. For knitting, favorite cast on and bind off methods and illustrations of any techniques that are not simply knit or purl. For crochet, the diagrams are great but hard to see because of the light colors used (yeah, I know it's common practice, but it shouldn't be) and make them larger.

Beautiful but... Review by susan simon

This is a great book with lovely ideas if you are an expert at crocheting. If not, it is a very difficult book to follow. There is a stitch abbreviation chart towards the back of the book. However, it is missing so much information. Perhaps if I had more experience reading crochet patterns it would be obvious to me. I've spent way too much time researching how to do stitches online and not enough time crocheting the pretty patterns in this book. If you are already very experienced, I would recommend this book - otherwise, get lots more practice first.
