Cecily Glowik MacDonald breaks up stockinetter in the rough with columns of dropped stitches to build the outerlayer of this skirt. A chiffon-like underlayer of laceweight softens the hemline.

Finished Size 32 (36 1⁄4, 40 1⁄2, 45)" waist circumference, just below waist casing, and 36 1⁄2 (41 1⁄2, 46 1⁄2, 51 1⁄2)" hip circumference. Skirt shown measures 32" waist.
Yarn Austermann Algarve (100% cotton; 155 yd [143 m]/50 g): #05 amber (MC), 6 (7, 8, 9) balls. Skacel Merino Lace (100% merino; 1,375 yd [1,265 m]/100 g): #036 taupe (CC), 1 skein. Yarns distributed by Skacel.
Yarn Weight: #3 - Light
Needles
Sizes 7 (4.5 mm), 5 (3.75 mm), 4 (3.5 mm), and 3 (3.25 mm): 29" circulars (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions Markers (m); tapestry needle; size G/6 (4 mm) crochet hook; 1–1 1⁄4 yds of 3⁄4" elastic (waist measurement + 2").
Gauge 24 sts and 32 rows = 4" in St st on size 4 needles with MC; 24 sts and 28 rows = 4" in St st on size 7 needles with CC doubled; 1 rep (11 sts) = 2 1⁄4" at lower edge in dropped st patt on size 5 needles with MC.

I was very happy with this pattern. It was straightforward, yet interesting, and the result turned out like the picture. I would recommend it for less advanced knitters.
