Made from mercerized cotton, they are strong enough to endure heavy use at the beach or market. The base and handles are worked in single crochet for firmness and the body is worked in knitted lace for suitable stretch. The sacks are worked from the base upward. A rectangle is crocheted for the base, then stitches are picked up around the edges of the base and the body is knitted in the round. An eyelet edging is worked in double crochet at the top and the drawstring is a crocheted chain threaded through the eyelets.
