Learn the secrets of creating the foundation for multi-faceted interactive doors. In this workshop we will explore fabric and paper altering: dyeing, stamping, burning, and hand embellishing. We will cover how to create resin charms, papers, and basic wirework. You will discover how to embed hidden elements and meaning into your piece, along with the joys of machine quilting on paper and fabric.
Materials list:
  • Sewing machine
  • Staz-on® ink (Saddle Brown, or your favorite color)
  • Rubber stamps (deeply etched)
  • 3 Disposable bowls or cups
  • Paper towels
  • Muslin, Natural (1 yard)
  • Organza (1 yard), sheer white or cream
  • Tulle (1 yard in a accent color)
  • 100-percent cotton scrim (1 yard), or cheesecloth (1 package)
  • Wool felt: 1 yard
  • Poly-fil®
  • Decorative trim (at lest 10" to embellish top half of door)
  • Small elements to capture/trap, such as ribbons, keys, buttons, beads, jewelry bits, trim, small sticks, shells or rocks, etc.
  • Threads, quilting and embroidery (colors to complement your palette)
  • Needles, beading, yarn darners, embroidery
  • Craft or quilting pins (to hold layers together for sewing)
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Awl
  • Metal pie tin
  • Tea light candle
  • Book text or sheet music (a few pages for background)
  • Assorted fibers, ribbons and lace, old doilies.
  • Assorted beads (glass or gemstone in various sizes)
  • Outdoor trash bag to use as a work surface.
  • Resin
  • Plastic palette tray (or resin jewelry molds)
  • Round nose pliers
  • Chain nose pliers
  • Flush cutter
  • 24-gauge craft wire

I was very impressed with this workshop. Ruth takes you step by step through the different parts of making these. She is clear and concise and does not leave you wondering what you are supposed to do. I think out of all the videos I have purchased that it rates highly.
