Description

Stitched captures the enormity of the quilting world with more than 21 million quilters in the US alone. It’s an industry filled with quilting superstars who have developed a following by teaching their craft.

Stitched begins with the largest quilt show in the nation held annually in Houston. The documentary also features the Paducah quilt show, one of the largest tourist attractions in the state of Kentucky.

There are tight bonds of friendship and the featured artists in Stitched are friends who have mentored each other. Caryl Bryer Fallert taught Hollis Chatelain who in turn taught Randall Cook. Behind every stitch, there is a story of friendship, art and passion.

Director

Jenalia Moreno
is an award-winning Houston Chronicle reporter whose colorful stories bring her subjects to life. Her travels to Argentina, Guatemala, Cuba and other Latin American nations resulted in touching articles about immigration, impoverished workers and international diplomacy. She’s interviewed everyone from presidents to street merchants. Her articles and videos about longshoremen, Spain’s olive oil industry and a drought won state and national awards. Jenalia spends her free time making documentaries and travel shows.

Producer

Nancy Sarnoff
has spent the past 15 years as a business journalist in Houston. She covers real estate for the Houston Chronicle. While not herself a quilter, Nancy has many of her grandmother’s quilts, which were made by hand on a wooden frame in the basement of her small-town Ohio home. The fabrics she used were leftover scraps and the patterns were simple geometric shapes, dolls and ducks. When Nancy’s not working on Stitched, she writes and blogs full time for the Houston Chronicle and spends free time traveling and taking photographs. Her recent trips to Argentina and Russia produced some of her favorite work.

Excellent Film--Watch It! Review by Julie Filatoff

"Stitched: The Film" follows three art quilters--Caryl Bryer Fallert (whom I had the great pleasure to meet when she had a show in Santa Fe several years ago), Hollis Chatelain, and Randall Cook--as they prep for the International Quilt Festival in Houston. Caryl and Hollis have won big prizes at IQF and other major shows, and Randall is their protege. This is an awesome film. If you have friends and family who've never been to Houson, and you've tried to explain ("It's 11 football fields in size...60,000 attendees...1,000 vendors...") and they still don't get it, show them a few minutes of footage at IQF.
