Description

The Fall issue of Studios covers the country, coast to coast. From a restored carriage house in Santa Barbara, California, to a re-imagined Gothic church in upstate New York, artists open their doors and welcome us in for a chat and to take a look.

This 148-page issue marks the debut of a dazzling new department, “Studio Styles.” Our mission is to celebrate good design in any price range, offer suggestions on how to personalize your studio, and encourage you to live creatively with what you love. In search of design advice we went straight to HGTV’s design star, Genevieve Gorder. See her on the cover and learn more in her article, Master Class on Design.

In a special feature, “Studios in Stages,” you will see three studio projects as they go through the process of tear down, construction, and completion. These three artists reveal “wish lists” for their dream studios and the ups and downs in making those dreams come true.

This issue also includes:

  • The quilting and fabric studios of Caryl Bryer Fallert, Patty Young, and Marcia Derse.
  • Internationally acclaimed designer Lotta Jansdotter in her all-white, light-filled space.
  • Author and organizing expert Carolyn Woods, with motivating advice: not only how to organize, but how to stay organized.
  • Quilters, fabric and costume designers, paper makers, graphic artists, book binders, teachers, mixed-media artists and more!

Come join our party-in-progress in the Fall issue of Studios.

Studios fall 2011 Review by Audrey Karman

I absolutely love the fall 2011 issue of studios! I myself have been redesigning my own studio space for a while now. This issue is full of wonderful ideas for floor plans, storage solutions, decorating, and furniture pieces. I've re-organized my space a number of times and always end up in the same disorganized mess(albeit a creative mess)!! This issue in particular has really helped me figure out what to do to fix these problems that I've been struggling with. My favorite articles in this issue are The art of Traveling with Art , A joyful Balance...(which made me want the winter issue of studios!),& Amy Kwong's Studio (I wish I'd hung onto my old orange/brown/gold suitcases;my first luggage!) I still have a lot of work ahead of me til I'm finished my first dedicated studio only space. This and other past issues of Studios have been a wealth of information and inspiration! Thanks to all who contributed.
