Description

Suzen Millodot illustrates the versatility of a few simple macramé techniques and creates twenty imaginative designs and great alternative ideas using braids, cords and beads. She includes patterns for two easy knots: the square knot and the lark’s head knot, showing how to tie them in different ways using just four cords, and combines them with beads to make stylish necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Repeat one knot and complement the cord with contrasting beads to make eyecatching bracelets. Interweave cords of different colours and create trendy necklaces, or vary the position of the knots for an original look. This up to date look at macrame techniques offers crafters and jewellery makers fresh, inspirational ideas and takes an exciting look at a traditional craft. Step-by-step instructions are accompanied by close up photographs of all the designs and material lists provide all the information needed to create beautiful jewelry.

About the Author
Suzen Millodot has always loved arts and crafts, and is the author of the very successful books Chinese Knots for Beaded Jewellery and Celtic Knots for Beaded Jewellery. She is an accomplished artist, having taught batik for many years in Canada, Hong Kong and Wales. She first developed a fascination for decorative knots whilst living in Wales and later in Hong Kong. Her jewellery now incorporates knots from all over the world and from all periods of history, and she complements the knots with unusual and exotic beads she has collected on her travels. She and her husband now live in Wales very close to their daughter and grandchildren. She occasionally teaches and continues to make original jewelry and wearable art using knots and macramé.

If you associate macramé with the 70s and all that conjures up then think again, for here is macramé reinvented for the new millennium.

Micro macramé uses thinner cords and vibrant fashion colors, so you can forget about hippy hemp and chunky styles. You can also forget about some of the far more complex macramé knots used in other new books on this subject; this truly is a book for beginners and a grand place to start.

Anybody who has recently been keen on Scoubidou will know most of it already, and allied with a few choice beads and other components can make some fun, fashionable pieces. There are necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings and a watch strap to choose from, and as with the other titles in this series each of the twenty projects also has another idea on the same page, making it up to forty.

The diagrams are clear and easy to follow, and you can plenty of practice using mainly one stitch to make each piece, as well as getting a chance to experiment with different cords. This is definitely staying on my keeper shelf as the simplest - and cheapest - micro macramé book around.

I WAS EXPECTING MORE ADVANCED PATTERNS. THESE WERE REMINISCENT OF MY BEGINNER STAGES AND THEY ARE PRETTY. ALL OF MY BOOKS WERE DESTROYED BY A HURRICANE AND I LONG TO SINK MY TEETH INTO MORE COMPLEX ITEMS. GOOD FOR BEGINNERS.
